Soon app redesign

Soon app redesign

Fall 2024

As part of my Visual Design for User Interface course, I did a redesign of the app "Soon." Soon is described as an “everyday bucket list,” letting users keep track of recommendations across a wide variety of categories of things to experience. The primary issues I tried to tackle were redundant buttons and inefficient screen space.

I'm highlighting this project because it covers a comprehensive story from research and ideating to redesigning, prototyping, and iteration.

The Process

User journey map

I outlined what benefits users get from the app, as well as the steps that they take to achieve certain goals.

Sketching

I sketched out redesigned versions of eight screens from the app, trying to comfortably maximize the amount of content visible and simplifying the array of button options.

Lo-fidelity prototype

In this phase, I simply translated my sketches into Figma and laid the foundation for future iterations.

Mid-fidelity prototype

In this phase, I added some colors and icons.

High-fidelity prototype

And in this final phase, I added pictures, real text, and more icons and other visual elements to further boost the realistic look.

Reflection

I consolidated unclear buttons into three clear buttons into a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. I also put a notifications menu at the top. I made the profile page its own screen rather than a popup and made the usage of space more efficient.

Overall, this was a great exercise in much of the design process; sketching and then iterative development of a prototype with more and more visual detail.
